A guide to 3D illustration

So what is 3D illustration? It is a flexible, creative form of producing realistic computer generated imagery. When creating my 3d artwork there is always a theme. The briefs I receive are varied in nature, however always require a specific creative goal that I endeavour to achieve. Creatives often come up with ideas for advertising or marketing campaigns that require photography to enforce a core concept. However, photography has it’s limits, can be time consuming and expensive. This is where 3D computer generated illustration fits in.

Using 3d illustration gives full control over the production of creative imagery. High resolution rendered imagery is suitable for commercial printing, such as brochures, magazines and large format posters. It can also be used for websites, animations and interactive content. Because every image is digitally produced, it is easily edited. Flexibility is key in a fast turnaround industry such as advertising. Hence I render out all our imagery in multiple layers, allowing quick changes to certain aspects of the illustrations.

 3D illustration offers unlimited creativity

Sometimes a product doesn’t look great when photographed. This is not good when you are trying to market and sell it. This is where 3d product illustration excels. Using accurate 3D modelling techniques, lighting and texturing I can bring products to life in 3D. Creating highly finished product illustrations that look almost like the real thing, can be viewed from all angles and in the best possible light. Perhaps you want to show your product flying through space or have your logo made to look 50 feet tall. 3D illustration allows the creation of convincing, conceptual artwork for your project.
